Latin for Children is a three-level classical Latin curriculum designed for grades 3-9, featuring adventure stories, incremental instruction, and comprehensive cultural content. Explicit GrammarStrength

The program provides thorough explicit grammar instruction covering all five noun declensions and four verb conjugations. Content is equivalent to about a year and a half of high school Latin.

By end of Primer C, students cover all five noun declensions, four verb conjugations, six verb tenses and much more. Lessons are grouped into units dealing with specific topics like second declension nouns and pronouns.

Teacher TrainingStrength

Comprehensive teacher support including instructional videos, answer keys, and detailed guidance. Designed specifically for parents with no Latin background.

Series especially good for parents with no Latin background. DVD instruction videos, answer keys provided, and lessons require minimal prep time for teachers.

Chants practiced repeatedly throughout each week, reference charts for memorization, yearly review chapter, and chapter-by-chapter vocabulary glossaries for review.

Comprehensible InputStrength

The curriculum provides excellent comprehensible input through adventure stories using diglot weave technique. Students encounter Latin vocabulary within English context with gradually increasing Latin content.

Stories use diglot weave approach with mostly English and some Latin words, with Latin amount gradually increasing. Adventure narratives follow Marcus and Julia through different historical periods.

Speaking Listening BalanceConcern

The curriculum emphasizes speaking through chanting but appears limited in listening, reading, and writing components. Focus is primarily on oral recitation and written exercises.

Children chant aloud lesson material and practice chants repeatedly. DVDs include chants with classical or ecclesiastical pronunciation, but limited mention of comprehensive listening or extended writing activities.
